Anovia- The Embassy of Belgium in Jordan celebrated King’s Day yesterday, where the Belgian Ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Serge Dickschen, underscored the depth of bilateral relations and Jordan’s pivotal role in promoting regional stability, emphasizing that Jordan’s geopolitical position and its ability to weather regional challenges make it a strategic partner for Belgium and the European Union.

King’s Day has been celebrated on November 15th since 1886. The occasion celebrates Belgium’s unity in its rich multicultural diversity and reflects on the strength of Belgium’s relationships with its many international partners.

Speaking during the celebration in Amman, Ambassador Dickschen described Jordan as “an exceptional country that has faced difficult circumstances with dedication and resilience,” noting that the EU’s recent decision to elevate its partnership with the Kingdom is a “logical and wise step” that reflects Europe’s recognition of the importance of Jordan’s stability.

The Ambassador highlighted Belgium’s deep appreciation for Jordan’s efforts in hosting hundreds of thousands of refugees despite declining international support, calling this commitment “a reflection of Jordan’s profound sense of hospitality and care.”

He stressed that donor countries, including Belgium, bear a responsibility to support Jordan as it continues to shoulder this humanitarian burden.

He also noted that relations between the two countries are reinforced at the highest levels, with strong and continuous ties between the two royal families, adding that the respect Jordanians hold for Belgium is “genuine and heartfelt,” and that this sentiment is mutual.

Ambassador Dickschen further pointed out that both countries, despite their relatively small size, share a clear vision of the importance of preserving a rules-based international order and engaging constructively within a multilateral system.

Both King Abdullah II and King Philippe, the ambassador said, consistently highlight the centrality of human dignity and shared humanity.

The celebration brought together diplomats, officials, and members of the Jordanian community for an evening that highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
