An Exclusive Interview with H.E. Mr. Metin Kazak, Ambassador of Bulgaria to Jordan
Anovia- In an exclusive interview, Anovia CEO and Founder Rula Samain met with H.E. Metin Kazak, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Jordan, to discuss the growing partnership between the two nations and the prospects for deeper cooperation in tourism, culture, and media.
Opening the conversation, Samain highlighted that the relationship between Jordan and Bulgaria has long been defined by a spirit of collaboration and exchange, noting that Jordan, with its unique blend of history, spirituality, and natural beauty, offers Bulgarian visitors an experience that combines culture with authenticity.
The ambassador expressed deep appreciation for the enduring friendship between the two countries, noting that Jordan and Bulgaria recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
“Over the past six decades, Bulgaria and Jordan have enjoyed a rich partnership marked by numerous events and initiatives that have strengthened our ties,” he said.
Kazak underscored education and tourism as key pillars of this cooperation.
“Hundreds and thousands of Jordanians have studied in Bulgaria, discovering our culture, traditions, and historic sites, and sharing those experiences upon returning home,” he said, adding that Bulgaria has become a preferred destination for Jordanian travelers.
He also expressed admiration for Jordan’s own heritage.
“When I came to Jordan, it was a true discovery. I was deeply impressed by the country’s remarkable history and its many archaeological and historical sites.”
The ambassador emphasized that the relationship between Bulgaria and Jordan is built on mutual respect, cultural understanding, and a shared commitment to expanding collaboration, particularly in the tourism and cultural sectors.
When asked about Bulgaria’s attractions, the ambassador explained that Jordanians often associate Bulgaria not with its capital, Sofia, but with Varna, the country’s Black Sea capital and the pearl of the coast.
“Varna has become a favorite destination for visitors from across the Middle East, including Jordan,” he said.
“Summer tourism remains one of Bulgaria’s main attractions, drawing millions of visitors from Europe and the Middle East each year. We are proud of our beautiful beaches, world-class resorts, and the welcoming atmosphere of our Black Sea coast.”
He noted that Bulgaria offers year-round tourism, describing it as “a four-season destination.”
“We have beautiful mountain ranges with excellent winter resorts for skiing and snow activities,” he explained, and added that “Bulgaria is blessed with hundreds of natural mineral springs and spa hotels, particularly in the Rhodope Mountains. One of our cities, Velingrad, is known as the spa capital of the Balkans, an experience not to be missed.”
Drawing parallels between the two nations, the ambassador reflected:
“Like Jordan, Bulgaria is one of the world’s oldest countries—established in the 7th century and proud to have preserved its name and identity throughout history. Our land holds archaeological treasures from the Thracian and Roman periods, the Bulgarian Revival era, and the Ottoman legacy.”
Among the must-visit destinations, Kazak highlighted Veliko Tarnovo, the old capital of the Bulgaria.
“The city’s architecture captures the soul of our history and tradition, and visitors will also enjoy our delicious cuisine, distinctive folk music, and vibrant cultural life. Bulgarian folk ensembles have earned international recognition, winning top awards at major European festivals.”
Turning to the role of the media in strengthening ties between nations, Kazak emphasized the value of cultural diplomacy and communication.
“Cooperation with the media is essential to promote mutual understanding, exchange cultural and historical knowledge, and help people know each other better,” he said.
“Modern digital platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok, play a vital role in sharing these messages with a wider audience.”
He praised Anovia Magazine as an effective example of media diplomacy, commending its mission to connect cultures through storytelling and modern communication tools.
“An initiative like Anovia is very important,” he remarked. “It uses the power of social networks to inform and inspire, showcasing the richness, history, and tourism potential of each country.”
The ambassador also noted the continuing value of traditional media, including in-flight magazines.
“Many travelers still discover destinations through the magazines they find on airplanes,” he said. “These publications remain powerful tools for promoting tourism and cultural exchange.”
